“Great away-from-the-bustle stay”
October 2017: “Just got home after spending 8 nights at the Alloggi Barbaria. First, I must commend Fausto for being a great host. Prior to arrival, he always responded to emails promptly and with good answers to any questions. In person, he is even better. He took the time to help better my fractured Italian, which I greatly appreciate. He is also a wealth of information for any need that his guests might need, as he is a Venetian and knows the area as only a local can. He is just a great host–one could not ask for better. The property is a great choice for a stay in Venice. It is away from the craziness that can be the more-visited areas, yet is extremely easy to get to from either the airport or the train station/car park/bus station area. And though you are staying in an area that has more of an actual neighborhood feel, it is extremely well-located for sightseeing. By foot, either Piazza San Marco or the Rialto area are an easy 10-minute walk (once you’ve figured out the way to get there through the maze-like calli of Venice, of course!). If you want to take a vaporetto to the islands of Murano or Burano, you can walk 2 minutes to the Ospedale stop and you are on your way. Or, because the property is located in the skinny, “tail” area of Venice, you can walk the other way to the San Zaccaria vaporetto stops in about 10 minutes to easily get to San Giorgio Maggiore, the Zattere area, or to simply take a cruise up the Grand Canal. All very convenient. As others have said, the rooms are a good size. There was the sleeping area, and off of that an area with a desk and mini-fridge. The bed was comfortable, the shower had good pressure and ample hot water, and everything was clean. Yes, the breakfast is basic when compared to other places that cost much more, but I found it filling and just fine for me. The wi-fi signal in my room (number 2) was always ample, and there is a nice deck off the common room that is especially nice when the sun is out. There are international news channels available in multiple languages (English, French, and German) on the television in the room, which was also nice to have. My room looked over a quiet back courtyard–at night it is almost eerily quiet, with only the distant sound of the occasional passing vaporetto to break the silence, which I appreciated. Overall, I would definitely recommend Alloggi Barbaria to friends or family who were planning a stay in Venice.” Eric S – Dana Point, California
