We have returned from our wonderful trip to Italy.
Thanks to you our vacation started perfectly. Your hospitality
will be remembered. We will continue to recommend your B & B to
anyone who travels to Venice.
- Jim Jasperson, April 2010
My husband and I have just made a 3 night visit to the
Alloggi Barbaria having stayed here 2 years ago. Once again we
weren't disappointed with our stay. The rooms are basic but
spacious, clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is enough to get
you started in the morning. Location wise it couldn't be better. The
stop for the Alilaguna airport water bus is just along the
Fondamente Nuove which makes arriving very easy, and ten minutes of
walking through lovely streets will take you to all the most popular
places. For us, it was a great starting point to walk the canals,
get off the beaten track and experience the 'real' Venice. In all,
this is a lovely, local hotel in a much less 'touristy' yet very
safe area, where it's possible to get a true sense of the city yet
still be close to the main attractions. The owners/managers are both
friendly and knowledgeable and it really is a well priced, pleasant
hotel to use as a base.

A very nice starting point to capture Venice, well
connected to public transport and close to all touristic highlights,
but indeed very quiet.

My fiance and i stayed here for three nights . It was
our first time in Venice and i booked a room based on the
reccommendations of other people on Trip Advisor, we were not
dissapointed. The hotel is actually a B&B but dont let that put
you off. On arriving we were greeted and showed straight to our room
and given the relevant infomation about breakfast and how to work
the remote for the air conditioning, we were also given a map of
Venice with the hotel and all the main sights marked. The security
is excellent, we were given a key ring with three keys, one for the
front door which stays locked 24/7 then one for our room and one for
a safe built into the wall in the room (this is free of charge
unlike some more expesive hotels). The room was clean and tidy with
a good shower and the bed was comfortouble enough, although it was
two singles pushed together. There was a mini fridge that got
re-stocked every day with water beer and soft drinks. For our entire
stay we never saw the cleaner, but every time we returned it was
evident they had been and done a good job. The breakfast was a
simple affair, fresh warm bread rolls, tea/coffee a pre packed
quassiont with a selection of cream cheese, butter and jam. At a
first glance the location dosnt seem to hot for all the main sights,
but you quickly become aware of how small Venice is. We were about a
ten minute walk form St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge. A 30
second walk out of the door and you are looking accross the water to
Murano (where Venician Glass is made) and a further five minutes
along the front and there are some really nice restaurants with
amazing views while you eat. Again just out of the front door and
there are three water bus stops which take you direct to and from
the airport and the islands of Murano and Burano and also into the
heart of Venice. To conclude if you are on a budget or backpacking
the Alloggi Barbaria has everything to offer. Clean, comfortable,
friendly, good location and at a good price. Even if you are not on
a budget i would recommend this Hotel for a city break.

We just returned from our two day stay in Venice and I
can't say enough good things about the Alloggi Barbaria Hotel. I
have high standards and staying here was a fantastic experience for
our family. Fausto was so friendly and helpful, both during our stay
and many times before we came (through all my emails to him). Not
only was the hotel great but the location is great. It's very close
to a water bus stop and close enough to St. Mark's Square to be
convenient. The walk to St. Mark's is short but full of pretty
streets, canals, and squares and this enhances your visit. We got a
great restaurant recommendation which was one of the highlights of
our visit. You will be very happy you choose Alloggi Barbaria and
the price is right for Venice.

In July of 2008, my niece and I visited Venice, Italy
and stayed at Alloggi Barbaria. Alloggi Barbaria is a charming bed
and breakfast located in a quiet calle in Venice away from the
not-so-charming hordes of tourists crowding the San Marco area but
close enough (once you learn to navigate Venice streets and
waterways) to visit many cultural sites. Conveniently located near
several waterbus (vaporetto) stops, it is a marvelous jumping off
point to visit the islands in the lagoon, like Murano, famous for
its glass factory. Using the waterbuses, we found that getting
almost anywhere central in Venice from this location took less than
half an hour. The neighborhood around Alloggi Barbaria is a great
escape from the crowds. My niece and I thoroughly enjoyed Venice as
a unique, magical city rather than a place to elbow through crowds
mostly because of our stay there. We felt like we got to experience
the ‘real’ Venice. There is also a great grocery store around the
corner, next to the boathouse. Giorgio and Fausto are the friendly,
helpful caretakers and are native Venetians. Giorgio left an
impression of kindness and hospitality: after a complicated
multi-flight trip, we arrived exhausted and jet-lagged in the
evening. Giorgio immediately led us to our clean, spacious room,
showed us our accommodations and how to work the air conditioner! It
was just what we needed at that moment and made us feel like welcome
guests. The multi-lingual Fausto can advise you on all things
Venetian – from Venice culture to restaurants to the best vantage
points from which to see Venice on high. Out of all the hotels we
stayed at on our trip to Europe, Alloggi Barbaria was my
favorite.
- Cindy Reitzi in Middleton, WI USA 11/06/2008
We had a really great experience at Alloggi
Barbaria in Venice. A great location off the beaten path but
still close the vaporetto, Fausto and Giorgio were
great hosts. They treated my two young sons like
family and made us feel at home. The rooms were
spacious and with enough room for our family.
We'll definitely be coming back.
- Bill in San Francisco, CA USA 10/23/2008
My family of four spent two nights at
ALLOGGI BARBARIA, it was difficult to find a room for
four in (Europe) Venice but they accomodated us. Fausto
shared local knowledge and gave us advice during our visit.
Fausto went above and beyond when we had a problem with the
Italian postal system (we don't speak Italian). The
rooms are clean and comfortable and there is no bad
location in Venice because it is so small. We came
back to venice a week after we stayed with them and
they allowed us to store our bags for a few hours - Amazing!
Thank you again to the staff of Alloggi Barbaria!!!

Alloggi Barbaria was above our expectations.
The hotel is very well located in a quiet neighbourhood
on a walk distance from a city center. Giorgio is a very
friendly and helpful person. Our room was spacious, clean
and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice and clean,
and we got clean towels every day. The breakfast was
rather nice and a terrace quite charmy. My husband,
our ten years old daughter and I spent five wonderful
days in Venice, and a certain part of it is thanks to
excellent accommodation in Alloggi Barbaria.
- Aida Van Der Zwan-Bubic, NL, Jun 2008
We enjoyed our stay here. Giorgio and his
staff were very sweet. Our room was quite spacious and clean.
Great location as well. The hotel provides easy
directions on getting there, and there were direction
about getting around and to the airport in our room.
It is in a cute quiet area of the city, close to a
vaporetto station, but you can easily walk the city
as well. I would definately stay here again.
- gelatoisyummy, Jun 11, 2008
Alloggi Barbaria is a great value for an
expensive city such as Venice. It was only a 10 minute walk
away from St Marks Square (can be a bit confusing to
get there as the streets are so maze like-the staff
supply you with a good map). I thought I would want
to be closer, but after spending time in the crowds
of people, I was happy to walk back to the hotel where
it was nice and quiet. The room and bathroom were
huge and they were very clean. It was nice to have
a fridge as well for any leftovers or picnic supplies
for the next day. Fausto and his uncle were very
friendly and made great suggestions for places to eat.
It was very easy to find our way to the hotel from
the train station. The breakfast was okay, but the
coffee was one of the best I had on my trip.
I would definitely stay here again.
- prariegirlWinnipeg, May 25, 2008
Perfect landlord, this small place
can compare in many regards to places that cost double
or triple the price he asks! we think we should compare
as we come to venice 10 times a year! :)
- EVA Kay, Austria, Jan 2008
The Alloggi Barbaria is a wonderful hotel to stay at
while visiting the city of Venice. Being away from the
heavily travelled tourist areas gives visitors a great sense
of what the "real" Venice is like, yet it is still within a
short walk from all the popular tourist areas. Fausto and
Giorgio are great hosts and are extremely helpful. We would
highly recommend the Alloggi Barbaria to anyone considering
visiting Venice.
- Gary & Anna, Boston, MA, USA, May, 2005
Fausto and Giorgio provided an excellent
retreat for us. Clean rooms, nice breakfasts on the sunny
rooftop patio with curious pigeons watching us, within
walking distance to anywhere you want to go. The hotel sits
on a quaint narrow street, Like all narrow Venice streets, a
very short walk from the Ospedale Vaporetto stop, which is
also very near a handy supermarket. We spent three nights
here, and enjoyed the very clean, well equipped and air
conditioned room.

A good quite place, very clean, spacious,
near ALL you want to be easily accessible: the sea, the
vaporetto station, islands, St Marco, Rialto, a supermarket
and also (very important!) all those Venetian districts,
beauties, bars and cafes that are not full of tourists yet
(but it was out of season). The personnel are really kind,
they offered me a Venice guide and allowed to leave my
luggage in after check out till my train in the evening.
Simple hotel but worthy. Thank you Giorgio!
-Sharova Mariya, Feb 1 2007
When you arrive to Capucine Street, you are
unable to imagine the wonderful thing that Alloggi Barbaria
is: clean and bright, extensive and comfortable, ample and
ordered, with plenty of details... And if you need any
information about Venice or sorroundings, don't doubt to ask
Giorgio, he will appoint you to any place or restaurant or
shop you need (sometimes he know them and you get a
discount!). Don't doubt: if you don't need luxury, Alloggi
Barbaria is for you!
- Mora Albert, Jan 8 2007
It is a clean, friendly an quiet hotel.
Fausto is a very helpful and friendly person speaking
excellent English and Spanish. You walk 10 maximum 15
minutes to St Mark’s Square or the Rialto. I would
definitively chose the hotel again for the relatively good
quality vs price relation. Also it was really clean and
friendly.
- Duerholt Henning, Nov 14 2006
What can we say? We were very happy, staff
were brilliant, very helpful. Breakfast was better than we
had expected. In a quiet area but gives an impression of the
real Venice. Local supermarket is fantastic. Easy to get to
from the water bus from the airport (just don't bring too
much luggage!!) Bridges to cross. Would recommend this hotel
to anyone. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
-Burgess Graham, Nov 3 2006
>This is a small hotel close to a vaporetto
stop, so it is very easy to get to Alloggi Barbaria. Also,
the Hotel is across from the islands of Murano, Burano,
Torcello, and San Michel! The staff of three are
approachable, helpful, and extremely friendly. Fausto,
Giorgio, and Ivana were genuinely and sincerely warm people.
Our room was cheerful and immaculate. Our bathroom was also
meticulous. My niece and I stayed there for five nights at
the beginning of our trip and three at the end. The next
time I visit Venice, I would definitely stay at Alloggi
Barbaria.
-Julie Smith, Boston, MA, USA, Oct 3 2006
We thoroughly enjoyed the Alloggi Barbaria.
The rooms were clean, spacious and air conditioned. The
staff was especially nice and helpful with maps and
suggestions of restaurants. We arrived a day before our
luggage, and the staff was helpful in finding a pharmacy
that was open on a Sunday. Location is ideal - far enough
from the throngs of people but close enough to walk
everywhere. Also, there is an "Internet Point" just around
the corner. I would definitely stay here again!
-Estridge Renee, Sep 25 2006
Hotel Alloggi Barbaria exceeded my
expectations. We had no problems in finding our way due to
the excellent instructions and map provided by the hotel.
-Curry Margaret, Jun 26 2006
There are only good things to say about this
wonderful B&B in Castello, Venezia. Venice was our arrival
in Italy from a long plane trip from Brazil. We were
terribly tired but totally excited when we arrived at the
airport. We followed the accurate directions given on the
site and when we get off the Vaporetto we were a few steps
from Alloggi Barbaria. This is a pleasant arrival when it
comes to Venice, coz we saw tourists everywhere dragging
their trolleys through bumpy, narrow streets to get to their
accommodation. And if you want to get there quicker, you may
take a water-taxi directly to the hotel. Then, after ringing
the bell, we were received by this kind Italian man(sorry, I
forgot your names)who showed us to our wide, super clean and
refurbished room, with a garden view to boot! The bathroom
was great, brand-new shower and we spent two silent nights
there. Breakfast was nice too. On day 2 we had the chance to
have breakfast at terrace, lovely. S. Marcos Square is
really a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The owners of
Alloggi Barbaria are so thoughtful that they give you a
little map of the town showing the location of the B&B plus
an itinerary to get to St. Mark´s Square, street by street,
turn left on ... then straight on... Mama mia! It´s so easy
to walk in circles, that this map with directions was such a
nice treat. We'll never forget Venice and we would
definitely stay at Alloggi Barbaria again. Thank you guys
for your hospitality.
-Benevett Michele, May 30 2006
The hotel was great. Staff were very
welcoming both George and Fausto (Fausto spoke excellent
English). The location is brilliant felt part of the
community and a supermarket has opened at the bottom of the
street, perfect for lunches and presents. The room was so
clean and we were well looked after. We would definitively
stay there again and recommend others try it.
-Curry Margaret, Jun 26 2006
Good, quiet location and excellent service.
We got a big, clean room with satellite TV overlooking a
nice garden. Staff were conscientious and helpful. Excellent
value for money.
