“Great for those on a budget”

The 8th of November 2012: “First of all, I contacted Signore Maroder several times before our trip because of several questions that came up – he answered extremely quick and my questions were all answered to my full satisfaction. Great service, thanks! We stayed here for two nights with our two boys (5+1) in a three bed room which can easily sleep two adults and three kids. We knew in advance that they did not have a baby bed and I planned on having the toddler sleep in my bed. The hotel was easy to find – just two minutes away from the Ospedale stop. It is located in a small alley. The directions given from Signore Maroder (who speaks perfect English) were very helpful. You walk up a flight of stairs once you are in the building. The rooms are all off the main hallway, but despite that it was extremely quiet. Our room had actually two rooms (without a door), had plenty of space, a desk with a small TV, a chair, closet, mini-fridge (very helpful, big enough to store some of our own stuff) and did not have carpets. The beds had a hostel feel to it (see pictures), but were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was tiny, but quite modern. Everything was kept really clean. Wi-Fi worked. Breakfast was sparse, but I knew that beforehand from the other reviews – and Italians don’t eat big breakfasts anyway. Like in France where you only get baquette, butter and jelly. So here, we got rolls, butter, jelly, yogurt and a packaged pastry. Coffee was instant, but still good and strong. It is a ten-minute walk to Piazza San Marco – and with the directions we received from the hotel we found our way without problems. The Signora recommended a Ristorante in a side street behind the Doge Villa. I wish I remembered the name; the food was typical Italian and fabulous! We had tried to memorize every turn we took and surprisingly, that helped; we found our way back easily. The owner (I think) of the hotel, the elderly gentleman, seems grumpy but I actually think he does not mean to be that way – we got a few half-smiles out of him. ;-) I highly recommend to speak a few words in Italien, it is always and everywhere appreciated, even if you just try. Thank you, Alloggi Barbaria, we highly recommend you!”.
